Domain Name - Register a Domain Name

WHAT IS A DOMAIN NAME

A domain name is a unique address that enables you to have an easy to recognize address for your Web Site and your E-Mail. For example, instead of having a URL address that is shared with your provider such as http://your-providers-name.com/~myname/, your address will be http://myname.com/. And you get to select your own name.

SOME REASONS TO HAVE A DOMAIN NAME:

Names are going fast. If you want to be sure that your name will not be taken by someone else, you should take action now. Remember this is a world wide network and a name can only be used once.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN DOMAIN NAME

The first segment of the domain name indicates the host (computer) name. The last segment identifies the top-level domain. Any items in between identify subdomains, which are networks or individual machines within the top-level domain.

The following is a list of some of the current top-level domains:

Your domain name can not have spaces or unusual characters. Only letters, numbers and dashes (i.e. the minus sign - ) are permitted. The InterNIC recommends 12 characters or less in a domain name. (Actually you can have up to 24 characters but it becom es a lot to type every time).

Once you have decided on a few possible names, you can check them out by using our icon at the bottom of this page to see if they've been taken. There is currently a backlog of domains waiting to be registered. If you submit an application for a specific name today, there is no guarantee that this domain will be available when your application has been processed. That's why it's important to register immediately and reduce your chances of being disappointed.
